There are many reasons and theories for skin aging. One such theory has something to do with free radicals. Free radicals are essentially molecules with electrons without pairs. They are generated during the process of oxidation. A certain amount of free radicals may actually be beneficial to the body. Excessive amounts of free radicals however may be damaging to the body and the skin.

The wrinkles that occur in skin after protracted exposure to water are sometimes referred to as prune fingers or water aging. This is a temporary skin condition where the skin on the palms of the hand or feet becomes wrinkly. It is caused when the keratin-laden epithelial skin is deeply involved with in water. The skin expands and the resultant larger surface area forces it to wrinkle. One of the easiest ways to fight wrinkles involves properly moisturizing the skin. An important secret to preventing wrinkles and solving skin aging problems lies in keeping the deeper layers of skin well-hydrated and replenished. Effective wrinkle-prevention creams moisturize deeply and promote elasticity, allowing the skin to both stretch and then re-tighten to its former smoothness instead of sagging when it is stretched.

The causes of skin aging are

Too many “free radicals” from stress in our environment and lifestyle.

Not enough “antioxidants” to protect our skin from free radicals.

See, it’s the imbalance between these two forces that causes one person to age faster than another.

The overall appearance of ageing skin is directly related to the quantitative effects of UV damage into the structural components of the skin’s collagen and elastic fibres.

This damage can occur even in young people, especially those who lead an outdoor lifestyle, or who have been exposed to the sun/sunbeds throughout their lives.

Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

If you already have wrinkles, then anti-wrinkle creams are a good option.

Retin A is used in a lot of anti-aging skin creams and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and other wrinkles.

Alpha hydroxy acids, often found in chemical peels, which are derived from fruit and milk sugars, exfoliate the skin and promote new cell growth in the epidermis. The most popular alpha hydroxyl acids are glycolic and lactic acid.

The fact of the mater is that as a person ages their face is where it shows most. Another fact is that of all the places that show age on the face, it is the eyes that perform this function best. The irony of this fact is that it is the smallest type of facial skin wrinkle “crows feet” that are responsible for showing a persons age in their eyes.

This is the very reason why so much research has gone into these fine wrinkles that form on the outer corners of the eyes. As a result of all of the research that has taken place, much understanding has been gained regarding the formation of crows feet, which has led to the development of products that have been shown in clinical tests to effectivly reduce the depth and length of these fine wrinkles.

What was found during the research is that it is the thinning of a layer of skin called the dermal epidermal junction that is located between the dermal and the epidermal skin layers that is the primary reason for the development of crows feet. Strivectin SD eye cream has been shown in multiple clinical trials to in fact have the effect of thickening this substrate layer by stimulating the skin to produce collagen.

The result of the thickening of this skin layer is shallower and shorter crows feet wrinkles. Dark circles under the eyes is another problem that effects some people and there is now product that clinical tests have determined to be effective in diminishing dark under eye circles. Kinerase eye cream contains a substance called kinetin that has the effect of stimulating the natural process your skin uses to rid itself of excess pigment. Its the process that your skin uses when a tan fades away and your skin becomes light again.

Why are fruits needed in our daily consumption of food to maintain a health body?

Fruit offers natural health benefits like vitamin C, potassium, calcium, iron, folic acid to name a few. Fruit is low in sodium and has no fat content. Fruit helps in maintaining joint function, cardiovascular, urinary, vision, acts as a natural body cleanser, provides antioxidants that help combat free radicals and protect the circulatory system.

Fruit and there benefits

Apples – lungs
Bananas – energy
Blueberries – antioxidants
Pomegranates – cardiovascular
Strawberries – heart
Tart Cherries – joints
Amalaki – all of the above and more

We all know where apples, bananas, blueberries, pomegranates, strawberries, tart cherries come from but what about the amalaki? The amalaki fruit, according to ancient mid-eastern texts, has been around for 5000 years. It is picked from a small to medium sized tree in tropical southeastern Asia, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the Mascarene Islands. Amalaki is said to be the richest natural source of the antioxidant vitamin C. Amalaki or Indian Gooseberry, as it is also known, has a bitter-sour taste and is very fibrous. This makes it hard to consume in its raw state but with a little salt and a lot of water you can eat a little piece.

In Ayurvedic medicine amalaki has the most rejuvenating food qualities in the plant kingdom and has a great quantity of healing properties. In ancient texts amalaki has been stated to be the best anti-aging medicine. Studies have been conducted on amalaki in both cancer and heart disease these studies are very encouraging.

If the fruit amalaki could be used in a nutritional drink and you could have all the health benefits of anti-ageing, help in preventing coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, antioxidants to control free radicals, lowering cholesterol, maintaining mental and memory function, help the body fight inflammation of the joints, aid in digestion, what could be better than that?

Fruit is the answer to having a happier healthier longer life.

Dr. Bernstein Contributed By: Dr. Eric F. Bernstein
Clinical Associate Professor, University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine
Medical Director, Mainline Cosmetic Laser Center
Lasers produce pulses of high-energy light that
cause hair to become dormant
Various types of lasers are used based on patient
skin and hair color
Results depend upon the experience of the
practitioner
A single treatment may reduce thickness and density of hair
Multiple treatments will provide best results

How laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal is the use of laser energy to produce long-term hair reduction. This is accomplished by producing heat in the hair, which is transferred to the hair follicle, which in-turn produces inflammation, and this inflammation sends a signal to the hair follicle to go into the resting (telogen) phase.

What is a laser, really?

First of all, what is a laser? A laser is a device that produces light of a single color or wavelength. In dermatology, these lasers produce pulses of high-energy light that is taken up by the desired target. In the case of hair removal, the target is the melanin pigment contained within the hair shaft.

A delicate balance

The tricky part of laser hair removal is targeting the hair shaft without damaging the melanin pigment in the surface of the skin. Thus the laser light has to be on long enough to heat the hair, but not too long to allow that heat to spread to the surrounding skin causing damage.
In addition, the darker a patient’s skin, the more difficult it is to avoid injuring the surface of the skin while treating the hair. For this reason, there are three main types of hair removal lasers that are used today, and depending on the thickness of the hair and the color of the skin, one laser may provide benefits as compared to another.

When Performing Laser Hair Removal, Experience Matters

In addition to lasers, intense pulsed light sources are also used for hair removal. These light sources do not emit a single color or wavelength of light, but emit light containing many colors. It may be more difficult to predict the outcome and avoid complications when using light sources that contain many wavelengths of light. However, the results with any device depend upon the experience of the practitioner.

How many treatments?

Normally, a series of three to five treatments are administered at four to eight week intervals depending upon the location of the hair. Following the initial series of treatments, subsequent treatments are administered, usually at longer and longer intervals. Some number of maintenance of treatments may be needed to keep all the hair away in a given area. After a single treatment, the hair in a given area is usually reduced in amount and thickness for a very long period of time. However, it may not be completely gone. To keep an area completely devoid of hair, maintenance treatments are always required. These maintenance treatments may eventually be required at only yearly intervals or even longer. This depends on the area being treated as well as the individual. As with any other traits in an individual, the frequency of maintenance treatments varies considerably from person to person.

Chiropractic - a term that derives from two ancient Greek words meaning “manually effective” - is technically described as “the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of conditions that affect the neuro-musculoskeletal system.” Through a series of special examination and manipulative techniques, chiropractors can diagnose and treat numerous disorders associated with the nerves, muscles, bones, and joints of the body. The emphasis chiropractors put on the spine has led many people to believe that the therapy is useful only for treating back pain. In fact, skilled therapists can treat almost every structural problem from headaches to ankle problems.

In 1895, Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, treated his office janitor for deafness by realigning some small bones in his spine. Fascinated by this discovery, Palmer moved from his native Canada to Davenport, Iowa, where he developed the principles upon which chiropractic is based.

In particular, he devoted considerable attention to the spine, noting that it is integral to all three functional elements of the human body: it surrounds and protects the spinal cord, a major factor in the nervous system; it supports a great number of individual muscles; and in that it actually consists of an entire series of linked bones, it also therefore has virtually as many joints. Palmer believed that any damage, disease, or structural change of the spine can affect the health of the rest of the body, and that through manipulation, chiropractors can not only improve structural problems such as sciatica or the effects of injury but also help with conditions such as asthma, which can be helped by easing tension in the chest muscles.

He then went on to develop the use of spinal adjustment to treat disease, discovering that by gently moving back into place those bones that appeared to be misaligned he could reduce many of his patients’ symptoms without recourse to drugs or surgery. Daniel Palmer established his first chiropractic school in Davenport in 1895. In the same year, W.C. Roentgen invented the X-ray machine, which early chiropractors found useful for making accurate spinal assessments. In 1907, Bartlet Joshua Palmer took over his father’s fledgling infirmary. His name is now primarily associated in the United States with those chiropractors who use chiropractic as their sole therapy for ailments.

In recently-published research in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, the Face Research Laboratory at the University of Aberdeen, reported that people judged happy faces more attractive if the face was looking directly at them. However, where it is looking does not affect the attractiveness of a disgusted face. The correlation between gaze direction and attractiveness is stronger for opposite-sex faces than it is for same-sex faces. This is yet another confirmation of the importance your eyes play in making you more attractive to members of the opposite sex, and shows how important it is to be able to direct your gaze freely and strongly at people if you want to make a good impression. However, sometimes our gaze becomes obscured by drooping or puffy eyelids, making it especially difficult to make the kind of furtive but direct eye contact essential to the initial stages of mating. If you are having difficulty connecting with the object of your desire, it might be time to consider eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). If we want to look young, attractive, and energetic, both to ourselves and to others, the eyes make all the difference.

Introduction to Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a delicate surgery that restores the appearance of skin and muscles around the eyes. It is far less invasive than the more extensive brow lift, but can achieve some of the same effects. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both, and is generally used to correct:

Narrowed eyes

Sagging eyelids

Drooping eyelids

Bags under the eyes

Sight obstruction

Tired appearance

Because studies like that conducted by the Face Research Laboratory show how important our eyes are in our daily interaction with others, these changes might be more than simply cosmetic. One possible explanation offered by the University of Aberdeen researchers is that a direct gaze signals attachment and interest, so an obscured gaze might be taken for boredom or loss of commitment. In addition, wide-open eyes are taken as a sign of trustworthiness, so brokers and salespeople may find the sagging of their eyelids makes them lose sales. The appearance of your eyes is not merely superficial: it is at the heart of our livelihood and our lives.

One false assumption people make is that eyelid surgery is only for older patients. However, much of our appearance is genetic, and the area around the eyes is one where genetics seems to play a dominant role. After all, there’s no way to exercise away the fat in your puffy lids. In addition, some lifestyle factors such as smoking, overwork, and chronic lack of sleep can have a negative impact on the appearance of your eye area.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

A skilled plastic surgeon knows how to do many different kinds of eyelid procedures and can determine a precise combination of techniques to address your particular eyelid issues. Some common areas of correction:

Removing fat from upper and/or lower eyelids

Removing skin from upper eyelids

Transplanting fat from the eyelids to hollows under the eyes

Correcting for weakness of eyelid muscles

Smoothing skin below the eyes

For the surgery, you may be given a local anesthetic with a mild sedative or a general anesthetic, depending on whether you are having an extensive or limited procedure. Then the surgeon makes cuts to allow the separation of the skin from the underlying fat and muscle of the eyelids. For lower eyelid surgery, the cut is commonly made on the inside of the eyelid, whereas for upper eyelid surgery the cut is concealed in the eyelashes. Excess fat, sagging skin, and even muscle will be removed.

Blepharoplasty is a tightly targeted procedure and can be combined with any number of surgical and non-surgical treatments such as a brow lift, facelift, or the injection of filler materials.

Take Care to Heal Quickly

After your surgery, do exactly as your surgeon requests to minimize your recovery period. These instructions usually include:

Use cold compresses to help reduce bruising and swelling.

Keep your head elevated for several days.

Avoid vigorous activity for about three weeks.

You might want to avoid bright lights.

Use only the eyedrops given or proscribed to you by the surgeon, in the event of dryness or itching

Do not be concerned if your eyes are producing excess tears. This is relatively normal.

Avoid getting your eyes wet, except with the prescription drops.

Avoid anything that makes your eyes hurt, like wind or sun.

Don’t wear contact lenses for at least two weeks.

If you follow your surgeon’s instructions, the procedure should heal in 2-3 weeks, and you’ll find that your face will look much younger in appearance. As you begin to notice the change, you may find yourself hankering to get out and bat those younger-looking lids, but you’ll find it’s well worth the wait to avoid all vigorous activity for the full healing period.

In the modern youth oriented society that we all live in now it is more important then ever to look younger then we really are. With regards to aging there really are some truisms that have to be contended with. For instance; if you are in your forties or fifties there is just now way that you can do a damn thing to get you looking like you are in your twenties again.

However; there are ways that you can beat the clock out of five to ten years and have you looking thirty something even though you are in your forties. Is that progress? You bet, because it is not how young you look it is how young you feel and when you look in the mirror and see that your skin on your face looks great and the wrinkles around your eyes are gone, you then feel great.

Also when your friends and coworkers know that you are in your forties and yet you look in your thirties, they all know that you are doing something right and everyone loves a winner. Of course staying out of the sun is so important for maintaining a youthful complexion but when you were young you didn’t realize just how much the sun would effect the way the skin looks around your eyes, lips and brow.

Go to any beach and you can see youngsters in their teens and twenties tanning so they can look their best. In another ten or fifteen years they will realize the damage that they have done and need a skin treatment to smooth out the wrinkles. Fortunately, thanks to modern science there are skin treatments that do work and as time progresses than will only get better.

Chinese medicine was introduced to the imperial court of Japan in the 5th century A.D. by Korean physicians. Monks and traveling physicians from Korea and China introduced Chinese ideas more generally during the 5th and 6th centuries. Medical works on acupuncture and moxibustion, with detailed diagrams, were made known in Japan by the Chinese doctor Zhi Cong around A.D. 560, and from the early 7th century Chinese medicine began to be adopted systematically under the influence of two Buddhist monks who had spent many years in China.

A Japanese adaptation of Chinese medicine still exists today. However, there are several distinctive features in Japanese medical practice.

A strong tradition of blind practitioners has resulted in very well-developed palpation techniques of diagnosis and treatment, such as abdominal palpation; shiatsu, which is a specifically Japanese form of acupressure massage, has also developed.

Japan also has a strong herbal tradition, which has close links with Chinese herbal medicine but tends to use smaller amounts of more refined ingredients and also has different formulas of its own. There are also a number of specifically Japanese manipulative and bone-setting therapies. Folk remedies, spa baths, and spiritual medicine in the form of prayers and talismans from shrines and temples are also popular.

The Japanese adaptation of Chinese medicine is known as kanpo, and the main foundations of present practice date back to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Japan was also exposed to Western influence at this time, when Christian missionaries began to arrive. Just as Buddhist monks had once cared for the sick, now Jesuits, followed by Dominicans and Franciscans, did the same. This type of medicine came to be known as “cosmopolitan” medicine.

During the 18th century, when the Dutch and Chinese were the only nations allowed to trade with Japan, Western understanding of anatomy was introduced, and at the same time many Oriental notions were introduced from Japan to Europe. Acupuncture and moxibustion became known for the first time in the West in this way.

“Cosmopolitan” medicine now officially dominates in Japan, but kanpo is also popular. This term is now often used to denote herbalism, but the whole range of Chinese medicine is practiced.

Acne may be loosely described as a state of the texture which is capable of being prominent at any time or age. When we communally talk about any type of blemish on the skin; things like moles and even whiteheads, it is broadly termed acne. It can occur at any age and can blight the appearance. But at the same time it’s curable. One can get rid of acne completely if you strictly follow a certain number of “do’s” and “don’ts” laid down for acne. Cleansing of the skin on a regular basis is very essential. Care should be taken that one never bursts or pop pimples or any other different kinds of swellings on skin or face. It is preferable that a smooth exfoliating skin care product like any herbal or natural things ensures healthy skin. Chemical products can also be applied over skin and cure Acne. It is so, because incidence of bacteria is a first cause of pimples. One can also use creams containing benzoyl peroxide to remove it.

Always take care of following points

You should always pad dry your face rather than rubbing it roughly.

The most important guidance to follow is the fact that one should always prefer to have a healthy diet and exercise regularly.
